Your skin's dream team

Q: Who should use the Nuit Collection?

A: Luzern's Nuit Collection was specially formulated to maximize the rejuvenating power of your sleep, with a complete collection of product that enhances collagen production, smooth skin, even out pigmentation, and improve hydration, ensuring you wake up looking refreshed and revitalized at the end of each night's rest.

Q: How does the Nuit Collection work?

A: The Nuit collection is formulated with targeted ingredients that are focused on the specific needs of the skin as it goes through various biological changes when you sleep. Below are proven skin changes that occur during slumber.

  1. Skin cells undergo regeneration: Skin cells are working hard to rejuvenate during the night and require topical nutrients to maximize the cells' regeneration process.
  2. The skin experiences moisture loss:  Clinical investigations revealed that sebum production is significantly decreased at night, which can result in dryness.
  3. The skin temperature rises: Skin reaches its highest temperature at night, and it becomes slightly more acidic than when it is daytime. High temperature and acidity can result in dehydration.
  4. The skin has enhanced absorption properties:  Another skin change that happens at night is high skin penetration. This means that your skin's barrier is down, so it can readily absorb whatever skincare products you apply.

Q: What are the key ingredients found in the Nuit Collection?

A: The key ingredients found in the Nuit collection were designed to address the specific needs of the skin as it goes through various biological changes when you sleep.

1. Rejuvenation performance ingredients: Topical nutrients and antioxidants that maximize the cells' regeneration process during rest.

  • Dual Retinol Complex - Retinol improves multiple dermal and dermo-epidermal junction genes/proteins and is a Collagen I, III & IV stimulator. Bakuchiol significantly boosts these results and displays Retinol-like activity.
  • Vitamin C – Luzern utilizes many forms of Vitamin C. It is a potent antioxidant & brightener with the proven ability to stimulate collagen production.
  • Peptides – Luzern utilizes many different types of peptides in our formulations - Peptides are short chains of amino acids and are the building blocks of proteins. The most commonly known proteins in the skin are collagen, elastin, and keratin, which are responsible for its texture and tone. There are hundreds of different peptides, all of which are made from various combinations of amino acids.
2. Moisture enhancing performance ingredients: Emollients serve two functions: they prevent dryness and protect the skin by acting as a barrier and healing agent, as well as soothing and softening the skin. They reduce roughness, cracking, and irritation by temporarily replacing the first line of skin barrier defense "the acid mantle." Examples used in Luzern formulations are but not limited to GLA, Omega-3, Omega-6, FFA, ceramides & sphingolipids
    3. Hydrating inducing performance ingredients: Natural humectants help attract water to the surface of the skin, but also deliver hydration and nutrients to the deeper layers, as well. This helps skin to keep itself hydrated regularly.
      • Hyaluronic Acid (High-Molecular Weight) works as a magnet for moisture, helping your cells retain as much as possible so that your skin looks and feels hydrated, plump and healthy
      • Hyaluronic Acid (Low-Molecular Weight) penetrates to provide a significant internal reservoir of hydration and up-regulates skin cell detoxification.

      4. Skin absorption performance ingredient: While you sleep, energizing microencapsulated oxygen works with the skin's natural renewal process to restore tone and texture to optimal levels.

      • Pure Oxygen (Biodyne TRF Tissue Respiratory Factor) Ultra-violet light stressed yeast. Increases cell oxygenation to improve cell renewal and proliferation (production of cells), increase collagen and hyaluronic acid production, and give skin a more luminous quality. Stimulates oxygen consumption and combats irritation, helps in tissue regeneration and assisting in cell regeneration, detoxification, and collagen repair. When used nightly, it helps to achieve a remarkable improvement of skin tone and texture and a luminous glow.

Q: Can you use Retinol with a leave-on exfoliant such as AHA or BHA?

A: Yes, you can. No research has ever demonstrated or concluded that alpha or beta hydroxy acid (AHA or BHA) exfoliants make retinol any less effective when used in the same skincare routine. What research does show is that using retinol products with an effective AHA or BHA product increases the benefits of each; it doesn't decrease them. AHAs and BHA help products deliver their vitally essential ingredients (like Retinol) by removing the dead skin that limits their absorption.

Q: Does Retinol exfoliate the skin?

A: It's a popular misconception that Retinol is an exfoliant. It isn't. Retinol is an antioxidant, and an essential skin-restoring ingredient. Retinol works by stimulating skin cell turnover, where older skin cells are removed quicker, and newer skin cells are produced and come to the surface. When starting a Retinol program, it is common to see the flaking reaction on the skin. It is a temporary side effect. It shouldn't be mistaken for true exfoliation, such as using an AHA or BHA. If you do experience extreme flaking for an extended period from using Retinol, try using the retinol crème less frequently. I.e., 2 days on 2 days off or alt days.

Q: Does Retinol aggravate the skin?

A: This is another myth that circulates. Luzern has found that formulary concerns or other "problem" ingredients are often the culprits—not necessarily the Retinol; so, it's essential to choose only well-formulated products that steer clear of irritating ingredients.

Q: Can I use Retinol during the day?

A: Retinol works best while you sleep. When exposed to sunlight, Retinol may break down, resulting in increased sensitivity and vulnerability in the skin, causing irritation and weakening of its top-most layer. However, only three of the six-piece collection contains Retinol. You may use additional products whenever you choose.

Q: Can I combine Retinol with vitamin C in the same regimen?

A: A recent study revealed two relevant facts: not only did Retinol prove useful when paired with vitamin C, but the two worked beautifully together to defend skin against environmental assault when applied under a sunscreen. The (misguided) concern about combining these ingredients is also based on misconceptions about pH and acidity. Vitamin C, especially ascorbic acid, requires a low pH to remain stable. The result is a more acidic environment, but we know acidity doesn't deactivate Retinol; after all, the skin's pH is naturally acidic, and Retinol usually occurs in the skin. Research has shown that a combination of vitamins will provide optimal results—including vitamins A, C, and E. Vitamin C helps Retinol work better by stabilizing it, extending its effectiveness. It turns out that using Retinol without vitamin C or another potent antioxidant could keep your skin from reaping all of the Retinol's benefits.
